Definition: Corey Lynn Calter (born November 29, 1956) is an American politician and lawyer, who has served as a member of the Wisconsin State Senate from the 8th District since 2011. He was previously the chairman of the Republican Senate Caucus, where he worked alongside other conservative Republican senators and governors in both chambers of the state legislature. Calter is best known for his leadership in supporting policies that were intended to attract businesses to Wisconsin and increase the state's economic growth. Calter's most well-known accomplishment as a legislator is his work on the 2013 Budget Implementation Act, which was designed to reduce the budget deficit by increasing state revenue through tax incentives. He has also been a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, and has supported legislation that would make it illegal for certain businesses to discriminate against gay and lesbian employees. Calter's tenure as Wisconsin's Democratic senator from 2013-2015 marked his first legislative stint in the state Senate. While he has not been re-elected for a third term, Calter has continued to serve on several committees in both chambers of the legislature, including the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. In addition to his legislative work, Calter has also served as a member of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission since 2015 and is currently serving on the Governor's Task Force on Affordable and Ethically-Driven Healthcare.
